Economic self-determination is the cornerstone of any liberation movement. We believe that for women to truly be free we must own and control the means of production and create opportunities for other women to be economically self-sufficient. ANWO actively develops strategies to build African women’s economic capacity through our projects .
Our political action campaigns organize our members and poor working-class African women to resist colonial-imposed contradictions. The political basis for our campaigns and programs are created from the ground up, in the African community.
Political Education and development is a non-negotiable for a progressive organization like ours. We are in a constant war of ideas with the ruling class. Therefore our organizations must have the capacity to contend and shift the narrative in favor of the African poor working class. We provide internal and external learning opportunities for our members and the public.
We advocate for the rights of women on a national and hyper-local level. In courts, hospitals and other sectors where we find ourselves contending with the state.
Wherever African women experience injustice and demoralization we elevate the issue through political action.
We organize various political and practical trainings and workshops that promote empowerment and base building.
